Sins & Needles (The Artists Trilogy, #1) by Karina Halle

Ellie Watt is used to starting over. The daughter of a grifting team, Ellie spent her childhood being used as a pawn in her parents' latest scam. Now she’s much older, wiser and ready to give her con artist life a rest. But returning to the dry desert town of Palm Valley, California means one more temptation than she bargained for – Camden McQueen.

Once known as the high school weirdo, Camden is bigger and badder than the boy he used to be and a talented tattoo artist with his own thriving business. Ellie’s counting on Camden still being in love with her but what she’s not counting on is how easily unrequited love can turn into obsession over time. When Camden discovers Ellie’s plan to con him, he makes her a deal she doesn’t dare refuse, but her freedom comes with a price and it’s one that takes both Ellie and Camden down a dangerous road.

FINAL RATING: ★★★★★/★★★★★

This book was beyond amazing. It was wonderful, cruel, loving, unexpected type of the story. With a big cliffhanger in the end, but never mind that, it was just fantastic. So far, the best Karina Halle's novel i have read so far. It's a story about revenge, lust, cons, mafia, drug cartels, regret, pain, abuse and love.

Sins & Needles is deeper than the "On Every Street" one, with more happenings, more character struggles and more action. I swear it seemed to me as if watching a movie, that is how tallented Karina is; i could have imagined whole scenes, happenings and characters perfectly. The writing is perfect, with right amount of details and information and very interesting way of writing the scenes that happened in the past. This book is emotional, even though it didn't make me cry, it made my chest hurt sometimes and that's something...right?

“That's the trouble with pain, Ellie. If you're lucky, you can wear it for all the world to see. Most people have their pain deep inside, in places no one ever goes. Not until it's too late.”

CHARACTERS:

Ellie:

“You’re so afraid, Ellie Watt. You’re afraid to show the world what you’re really like. You’re afraid to come to peace with your scars, because the minute you do, the minute you accept them, you have to let go of your anger. You have to let go of your quest. And then who would you be?”

Ellie is a con artist and she is doing her job quite good. She steals, tricks and changes identities. She is scarred and it makes her feel different from the rest of the world. To her it feels like the world had cut her off. I congratulate to Karina Hale and her main women characters. They are always so amazing, strong, reckless, complex and they always feel so real. I adored reading the book from her perspective, not to mention all those "THEN" parts where it was written from the third person and was about "the girl" aka Ellie. Though, i must say she was quite bitchy before (especially in "then" parts). Now, i like her way to much. And now you wonder, had she really changed or will she screw something up?

Camden:

“There’s no one else I wanted to love,” he admitted. “No one who deserved it more than you. I hope one day I’ll deserve it too.”

I just don't have enough words to say how i feel about Camden. He is wonderful, reckless, gorgeous, sexy, tattooed, and thinks!!! He knew Ellie from before, when they were in school, and they were friends once. Until Ellie screwed it up. He was an outcast before, and now he is popular tattoo artist. And he has changed. He is not the same man Ellie once knew. He is sort of perfect but not entirely perfect character. He has his own faults, he made some mistakes in the past which now made his life miserable. And then, he sees Ellie again and wonders...is she the same Ellie he used to know?

Javier:

And the sexy and irresistible charming bastard returns in this story. If you haven't read On Every Street, i advise you to do so, because you get to know him better. I know many of the girls are swooning over the sexy bastard - but he is just a psycho and i just hope i won't start liking him in the next books. He wants Ellie back, and he will do anything to keep her.

OVERALL:

I can't say how much i love this book. Words just aren't enough for it. I strongly suggest for this series to be read, because it's wonderful, it will grip you from the start and won't let go. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

“I’m not letting you go on your own. We’re in this together, until the ocean waves crash on our feet.”
