Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor

"Errand requiring immediate attention. Come.

The note was on vellum, pierced by the talons of the almost-crow that delivered it. Karou read the message. 'He never says please', she sighed, but she gathered up her things.
When Brimstone called, she always came."

In general, Karou has managed to keep her two lives in balance. On the one hand, she's a seventeen-year-old art student in Prague; on the other, errand-girl to a monstrous creature who is the closest thing she has to family. Raised half in our world, half in 'Elsewhere', she has never understood Brimstone's dark work - buying teeth from hunters and murderers - nor how she came into his keeping. She is a secret even to herself, plagued by the sensation that she isn't whole.

Now the doors to Elsewhere are closing, and Karou must choose between the safety of her human life and the dangers of a war-ravaged world that may hold the answers she has always sought.

FINAL RATING: ★★★★★/★★★★★

Once upon a time,
an angel and a devil fell in love.
It did not end well.

This book was brilliant.
It was majestic, beautiful, epic and strong... Everything about it was perfect : the characters, the story and the ending... Never before had i read about something so powerful that it left such a strong impact on me, that i remember every single part and detail of it.

It's so strong, it's so beautiful, it's just...magical!

This book will make you weep, cry and laugh... it will rip your heart out, and it will make you feel everything.

In the beginning, i wasn't really impressed -for it was really confusing. BUT! After a while, everything seemed to click in right places and i discovered a rare gem in the sea of books. In the end it was 5 stars; the ending was really something i didn't quite expect, not to mention it was mind blowing...

The idea was cool, but there was plot twist that really blew me away O_O. I didn't expect that kind of thing, and it proved how unique this world is! And while we are at world building, it was fascinating, unique and well done! I loved the ideas and i loved it all. The setting in Prague, the teeth, the bones, everything! Even though it sounds morbid right now xD

“It's not like there's a law against flying."
"Yes there is. The law of gravity.”

CHARACTERS:

Karou:

“She craved a presence beside her, solid. Fingertips light at the nape of her neck and a voice meeting hers in the dark. Someone who would wait with an umbrella to walk her home in the rain, and smile like sunshine when he saw her coming. Who would dance with her on her balcony, keep his promises and know her secrets, and make a tiny world wherever he was, with just her and his arms and his whisper and her trust.”

Karou is seventeen year old art student in Prague, and she is not like the other people. She has natural blue hair and she has scars probably made by bullets on her stomach. She leads two lives: the "usual" one...normal - she goes to school, has friends... And her second one is paranormal. She was raised in a family of chimaera. And all she has to do is collect teeth... People always asked her about who she was... but she never knew the answer.

Karou is wonderful character. She is strong, she is lovely and she is badass. I loved her from the beginning and it stayed that way till the end.

Akiva:

“Your soul sings to mine. My soul is yours, and it always will be, in any world. No matter what happens. I need you to remember that I love you.”

Akiva is the warrior angel with fiery wings and amber eyes. He is emotioneless, ruthless, dark and dangerous and without question, really merciless and cold blooded killer. He was used to not asking questions... but he can't help but try to figure out what...or who Karou is.

I loved him, every single POV that he had. I loved his thoughts, his words, everything! I felt sorry for what he had gone through, and he is just... amazing character. Akiva is broken and tortured soul, and it left him with many scars... and he cannot forget.

Madrigal:

“Hope can be a powerful force. Maybe there's no actual magic in it, but when you know what you hope for most and hold it like a light within you, you can make things happen, almost like magic.”

Madrigal is a mystery and you will meet her later in the story, but she is quite relevant for everything the characters are going through.

Madrigal was awesome, passive character and i loved her, she was strong, beautiful and great.

EVERYONE ELSE:

Other characters were really interesting, not boring in any way and they actually make the book even better :) i loved Zuzana, Mik & Brimstone >:) Hated Thiago and his obsession with "someone"...I want to know more about Hazael and Liraz, Akiva's siblings, even though they appeared so little :(

OVERALL:

Laini Taylor,
i have something to say to you:

IT just had everything i loved, tragedy, love, supernatural stuff, killings-blood and gore, very weird creatures ♥, and ofc NO LOVE TRIANGLE XDDD . It was just...fantastic, and it's a book everyone should read! ♥
